Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour Liquid Foundation Review

Hello my lovelies!

I am always on the hunt for a good foundation that won’t melt off my face, and having combo/mostly oily skin doesn’t make the hunt any easier for me. I have heard many things about the Maybelline SuperStay Foundation on both the internet and in person. Some good things and some bad things, so I thought I would put it to the test and see how it performs.

Product Description:

I bought this foundation from £9.99 from Boots, while it’s not as cheap as my holy grail Fit Me Matte and Poreless by Maybelline (£6.99, BTW) it’s still a pretty decent price for a budget foundation. The foundation claims to be full coverage that will can last up to 24 hours. It also claims to be lightweight, matte and suitable for all skin types.

If I could complain about the initial product, it would probably be the shade range. There are 12 shades, which isn’t a lot considering how many shades other brands can produce and how many skin shades exist in this world. So, there isn’t a lot to choose from if you’re very fair or very deep.

First Impressions:

Once my primer was applied, I used one pump to the back of my hand. My first thought was this foundation is very thick with a similar consistency to the Urban Decay All Nighter foundation. I used my Morphe Y6 brush to blend the foundation on my skin. It felt very heavy and it looks kinda cakey. I switched to a damp BeautyBlender which helped it blend better, in the end I had an airbrushed kind of look. The coverage is crazy good, pores? I don’t know her. But…even after I used the sponge, it still felt heavy on my face. I also noticed after I wore a collared shirt all day that I had transfer on the collar and if I touched my face at all, you could feel the makeup coming off.

The next day, I used a smaller amount. Half a pump of foundation still covered my entire face and still gave me the coverage that I like. It felt a lot better and didn’t transfer at all compared to the day before. So, I definitely recommend starting off with a small amount and apply more as you see fit.

Is It Long Lasting?

With other foundations I nearly always have to touch up a few times a day, you know the drill: blotting sheet, powder, repeat. Oily skin, forevs <3. However with this foundation I only touched up once in 8 hours. I also noticed that I still had okay coverage after a full shift at work, which is more than what could be said for Kat Von D’s Lock It foundation which vacated my face after a few hours of wear.

Could it last 24 hours though? I’m not so sure, I was pretty oily after a full day and it was starting to separate a little on my nose and cheeks. My guess is, if I had gone over even 14 hours of wear, it would stop looking good.

Final Thoughts:

Honestly, I like this foundation. The coverage is seriously impressive and the fact I didn’t need to touch up as much proves it works pretty well. This definitely works better using the littlest amount. Foundation on the collars of your shirt ain’t cute and this foundation definitely transfers. Overall, it’s high up on my list of budget makeup and I absolutely love wearing it.
