It seems as though Jeffree Star is everywhere these days. He’s probably one of the most controversial, interesting and in your face Influencers out there right now. While I don’t agree with some of his actions, I respect him as a business person. He has built his multi-million dollar beauty empire from the ground up, he’s releasing collections left and right and is always ahead of the game.
His makeup brand is well-known for its top quality products, whether that’s his line of highlighters and eyeshadow palettes with the HUGE pan sizes. Which is why I decided I would test out the products that started it all, his Velour Liquid Lipstick.
The lipstick I’m reviewing today is the shade ‘Celebrity Skin’. I bought this for £16.00 on Beauty Bay and there it is described as a matte soft brown nude. What I didn’t realise was, is how prominent the peachy undertones are. I try to avoid anything that will make my teeth look yellow, peachy undertones are one of the culprits. Once it arrived though and I tested this on a fresh face of makeup, the peach is barely noticeable.
On Jeffree Star Cosmetics it does mention the undertones, it also has a better product description than Beauty Bay:
Our liquid lipstick goes on opaque, dries completely matte and stays on for hours! This product is 100% vegan & cruelty-free! (tips before use: exfoliate then apply to bare lips! avoid food with oil… and no making out, kisses are ok!)
This is a little darker than I was expecting. I’ve worn ‘Ophelia’ by Kat Von D (hello, controversy) a lot recently, as well as ‘Velvet Teddy’ by MAC – these are lighter than this shade and are definitely suitable for summer wear. That being said, who said a darker lipstick can’t work at the peak of summer? Totally wearable!
It glided on ridiculously smooth, it has a slightly watery consistency but it actually makes it easier to apply. It’s pigmented right off the bat, and looks fab once dried. It sits very comfortable on the lips, more notably it’s non-drying and doesn’t leave your lips feeling tight like some liquids can.
I couldn’t work out the scent of it for the life of me. So, I took it upon myself to search his FAQ page to see if the question had already been asked. Sure enough it had, it’s described as a ‘Root-beer Float’ smell that only certain shades have, ‘Celebrity Skin’ being one of them. I haven’t personally tried root-beer float but hopefully it’s similar!
Is It Long Lasting?
I first applied the lipstick at 8am, and it was around 12pm when I remembered I was wearing lipstick. It’s far too comfortable. When I checked for smudges, it was still there! Granted it wasn’t as pigmented as when I first applied it, however that’s to be expected and it’s nothing that a little touch up can’t fix.
My final thoughts on this lipstick is it’s pretty great. I’m really impressed with how comfortable it feels and it didn’t leave my lips all chapped and nasty. Win! From the non-drying formula to the pigmentation, you can’t fault it at all. The range of lipstick shades he has is awesome, I’m actually looking forward to buying more to test out.
